Labor is making catching public transport even easier, with tap and go technology rolling out to every train station across Victoria.
From today, passengers will now be able to tap on with a bank card, phone or smartwatch at every station through to Echuca.
The rest of the regional V/Line network will progressively switch on in the coming weeks, including every station on the:
- 23 August: Swan Hill Line
- 30 August: Shepparton Line
- 6 September: Ararat and Maryborough lines
- 13 September: Warrnambool Line
- 20 September: Bairnsdale Line
- 27 September: Albury Line, with Benalla and Euroa stations to be added on 22 November following station upgrade works.
Works are underway to install 106 new readers across 37 V/Line stations which previously required a paper or eTicket.
Once completed, passengers will be able to tap on at every train station across Victoria, as well as on trams and myki-enabled buses.
Passengers who have not reserved a seat for long distance services can purchase an unreserved fare at their station with tap and go.
Anyone travelling who would prefer to use a physical myki card will be able to do so.
Concession passengers, seniors and those under 18 should continue using their concession or Youth myki.
Victorians have already embraced tap and go, with more than five million journeys being made with contactless payment since March 2026.
Labor is also making travel more affordable, with half-price public transport fares until the end of the year saving regular commuters over $850.
