Urban sustainability has become a major part of Hobart life – and the City of Hobart is keen to play its part in supporting this.
The next round of the City of Hobart grants is now open, with grant streams available for urban sustainability, event partnerships and community Christmas carols.
Good Life Permaculture has been one recipient of an urban sustainability grant previously and reaped the rewards.
It used the funds for the open garden event Home Harvest, which saw 17 locals open their garden to the public to ‘look, learn and be inspired.’
This event saw over 9000 people participate either in person or online and no doubt inspired many to start, or improve, their own edible gardens.
ABC Gardening Australia presenter and Good Life Permaculture organiser Hannah Moloney said the grant had been beneficial for multiple reasons.
“The Urban Sustainability grants have been a big enabler in running projects that build community connections, climate resilience and sustainability all towards crafting a good life for all,” Ms Moloney said.
“Thanks City of Hobart!”
Urban sustainability and community Christmas carols grants are worth up to $15,000 each, while event partnership grants are worth over $20,000 each.
Acting Hobart Lord Mayor Helen Burnet said the grants were open to diverse groups and organisations.
“Ten Days on the Island, the Wooden Boat Festival, Festival of the Voices and the Salamanca Arts Centre have been some of the recognisable events and organisations to tap into the City of Hobart grants,” Cr Burnet said.
“But there are plenty of smaller groups that can access these funding streams as well.
“For example, community Christmas carols grants gave thousands of locals the chance to enjoy Christmas and community spirit with carols events presented by the Lenah Valley Community Association Inc. and the Mount Stuart Residents’ Inc.
“These community-driven activities make a real difference for people and communities and the City of Hobart looks forward to offering more opportunities through the upcoming Annual Grants Round.”
This grant round is open until 3pm Monday 7 August.
