Taree railway crossing upgrade

NSW Nationals

NSW Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has welcomed news Taree’s Bushland Drive railway crossing is set to receive significant safety upgrades thanks to the Australian Government’s Regional Level Crossing Upgrade Fund (RLCUF).

The RLCUF aims to ease the risk of serious and fatal crashes at railway crossings in regional areas, which can have a profound impact on communities.

Through a collaborative effort between federal and state governments, $28 million has been allocated to the NSW Government in the initial round of funding.

The proposed list of railway crossing upgrades includes 23 priority projects across nine electorates covering a large area of regional NSW.

Mrs Thompson said Taree will benefit directly from these funds.

“The upgrades will include retro-reflective boom gates, audible warning devices, and updated signage, which help prevent motorists from crossing in front of oncoming trains.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the work start in the coming months. This investment will increase safety for motorists and pedestrians at a dangerous railway crossing that has seen accidents and near misses in the past,” Mrs Thompson said.
