Targa Tasmania postponed until 2025

Nic Street, Minister for Stadia and Events

Targa Australia has today announced the postponement of the 2024 Targa Tasmania event as the coronial inquest into race fatalities takes its course.

Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said while this news would be disappointing for competitors, the Government was fully supportive of Targa’s decision and will continue to support the event.

“The Tasmanian Government has been in partnership with Targa since inception, and as with all true partnerships our support extends through the challenging times as well as the good times,” Minister Street said.

“Targa Australia has made the appropriate decision to postpone the 2024 competition, and we fully support it.”

Due to the event’s 2024 hiatus, the Tasmanian Government will defer the event’s funding for 2024 and extend the current partnership to include the 2029 event.

“We remain committed to Targa as a key feature on the Tasmanian events calendar,” he said.

“Targa Tasmania is an iconic event for our State, and we will not lose focus on the positive impact the competition has on our visitor economy in all the regions the event travels to.”
