Taskforce Falcon detectives have charged two men, seized a bolt action rifle and ammunition, after a two-year investigation into a public place shooting and multiple firebombings in Sydney’s south west.
In May 2024, detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad established Strike Force Together to investigate a public place shooting and two arson offences at Briggs Place, St Helens Park.
During the investigation, it was identified stolen vehicles used in public place shootings and arson offences were being staged at an industrial complex in Smeaton Grange.
Following extensive inquiries – including two appeals for information – police identified two men they alleged to have been involved in staging the vehicles.
About 9am yesterday (Wednesday 9 September 2026) strike force detectives – with assistance from Southwest Metropolitan Operations Support Group – executed search warrants in Glen Alpine and Menangle, where they seized a rifle and ammunition.
A 33-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, two counts of drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of dishonestly possess interfered with unique identifier, acquire firearm no licence/permit-not pistol/prohibited firearm and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
He was refused bail and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court yesterday, where he was further refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 17 September 2026.
As inquiries continued, about 6.10am today (Thursday 10 September 2026), strike force detectives executed another search warrant in Kearns.
A 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal, receive motor vehicle part theft serious indictable offence greater than $5000, dishonestly possess interfered with unique identifier and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 10 September 2026).
