Taskforse Vanguard foil burglary spree

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives performing Operation Nighthawk, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team officers, arrested a man fleeing from a vehicle in Brooklyn early on Thursday morning.

Operation Nighthawk is a proactive operation focussing on vehicle theft.

The arrest took place in Richard Court after the 29-year-old Meadow Heights man ran from a stolen Hyundai sedan just after 3.30am on 3 October.

As a result of the arrest investigators executed search warrants at two addresses, one in Port Melbourne and another in Footscray West.

At both addresses investigators located a large amount of allegedly stolen property which included power tools, jewellery and clothing believed to have been stolen from aggravated burglaries in Preston, Malvern, Williamstown, Frankston, Toorak and Maribyrnong.

This arrest forms part of an on-going operation, Operation Bibacity, conducted by Southern Metro Region Taskforce Vanguard, which was tasked with investigating a series of burglaries in the Southern Metro and North-West Regions committed between during August and September.

The man has been charged with 41 charges including aggravated burglary, burglary, theft of motor vehicle, theft, various traffic, drug and bail offences.

He is expected to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this morning.
