Tasmania Deserves Our Fair Share Of Health Funding

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Liberal Government notes media reporting regarding the ongoing discussions about the next National Health Reform agreement.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett said while discussions with the Commonwealth remain ongoing, it is imperative that Tasmania receives its fair share from the next funding agreement.

“Building a better health system is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future and we are focused on achieving a fairer and more equitable funding agreement that achieves this,” Minister Barnett said.

“In Tasmania we want to be better off, not worse off. The existing deal is simply not good enough and the Federal Labor Government are taking Tasmanians for mugs.

“The State Government has been doing the heavy lifting for some time as the Commonwealth neglects their obligation to providing primary healthcare in Tasmania.

“Importantly, the new agreement must support whole-of-system reform that will improve patient outcomes and provide Tasmanians with equitable access to care when and where they need it.

“I am calling on the Federal Government to step in and step up, to do their part and to stop failing Tasmanians.”
