Tasmania is envy of world in renewable energy

Guy Barnett, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction,

Instead of knocking Tasmania’s world-leading renewable energy sector and actively talking down our state’s competitive advantage, Lazy Labor should be backing in our State’s energy credentials and the opportunities this presents.

Following the commissioning of the Cattle Hill and Granville Harbour wind farms late last year Tasmania became the first jurisdiction in Australia to be 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewable electricity.

This is a fact and no amount of Labor misinformation can change this.

And to maintain the momentum, the Government has legislated to double our renewable energy capacity to 200 per cent by 2040.

This is more good news.

Labor simply doesn’t understand energy supply so they revert to misleading Tasmanians.

It is fundamentally about our Hydro storage levels which, as of Monday, sits at a healthy 50.2 per cent – this is renewable energy in the bank.

We are also delivering the lowest, and among the lowest, regulated electricity prices for households and small businesses in the nation and this has been confirmed by the independent Tasmanian Economic Regulator.

More than seven years on from our election in 2014, in real terms, prices have decreased by 18.04 per cent for residential customers and decreased by 27.18 per cent for small business customers.

It is no surprise that Tasmanian businesses are some of the most confident in the nation.

The Government has also announced our bold plan to legislate a target of net zero emissions from 2030. This target will be nation-leading and one of the most ambitious in the world.

Tasmania is the envy of the world when it comes to renewable energy and emissions reduction.

We have a plan and we are delivering that plan and it’s about time Lazy Labor stopped talking down Tasmania.
