The latest National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) statistics show Tasmania is leading the nation in skills and training.
The NCVER has today confirmed Tasmania experienced the largest enrolment growth in government-funded courses in the nation between January and September 2022.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said the NCVER reported that in Tasmania there had been a 5.4 per cent increase in enrolments for government-funded programs.
“These statistics show nearly 25,000 Tasmanians were supported to obtain new skills and undertake training. Tasmania continued to see strong growth compared with the same period in 2021,” he said.
“While enrolments across Australia were down, Tasmanians continued to enrol in their thousands.
“We are proud to be supporting Tasmanians to take their opportunities through VET, to get their foot in the door, or upskill and take the next step in their career.”
The report noted that the top three qualifications by enrolments in Tasmania were the Certificate III in Carpentry (2170), Certificate III in Individual Support (1445) or Certificate III in Retail (1040).
Minister Ellis said the Rockliff Liberal Government is giving Tasmania’s young people the education and training they need to be workforce ready.
“Reports like these show our Government’s absolute focus on jobs is delivering for Tasmanian jobseekers, businesses and local communities,” he said.
“Our Regional Jobs Hub Network alone has supported almost 3000 Tasmanians into work and helped more than 1200 people to undertake training that will upskill them for the future.
“Our plan for the State is growing the economy and this data shows that government-funded training initiatives will support the Government’s plan to create 20,000 more jobs over the next five years.”
