Tasmania’s Next Iconic Walk Project: Tyndall Range West Coast

Tasmania’s Next Iconic Walk Project: Tyndall Range West Coast Tasmania: seeking community input

The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) is exploring options to develop a new West Coast Walk, through the Tyndall Range. The aim of the walk is to present an extraordinary walk experience that generates both economic and community benefits for West Coast businesses and residents. The PWS is working with the local tourism industry, business community and the West Coast Council as essential partners in helping to achieve this.

The Project is currently in the feasibility study stage. The PWS is seeking your assistance through a survey to identify the benefits you think will arise from this project, so that the feasibility study can be as comprehensive as possible.

The survey is considering the following walk options:

– A three day, two night through walk (walking in one direction), including two accommodation sites on the track;

– A two day, one night return walk (same start and end location), including one accommodation site on the track; and

– New day walks and improved existing walks.

The different options will appeal to visitors with specific interests and offer businesses’ and residents different opportunities. Different options allow strengths and weaknesses to be fully explored. The feasibility study may recommend one of these options, a combination of these or another option to proceed to planning and, if formally approved, construction.

The survey’s objective is to understand the economic and social benefits from the different opportunities that businesses and residents can see from the 3 walk options.

This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Responses will remain confidential with results collated and presented anonymously. The final survey report will be provided as an appendix to the Next Iconic Walk feasibility study and will be posted on the Council and PWS websites once the work has been finalised.

Thank you in advance for your time and input.
