Taxi driver charged after sexual assault, NSW

A man faces court today following the alleged sexual assault of a woman earlier this year.

On Thursday 25 April 2019 at about 11.30pm, a woman was placed in a taxi by friends outside a hotel on Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills.

It is alleged that the driver took the woman to another location, where she was transferred to another vehicle, a Mitsubishi Lancer.

He then drove the woman to a car park where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Following the alleged assault, the man drove the woman to her Dulwich Hill residence.

The incident was reported to police and the woman was taken to hospital.

An investigation into the matter was initiated by Surry Hills Police Area Command.

About 7.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 25 September 2019) a 22-year-old man attended Granville Police Station, and as a result of inquiries was taken into custody.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended a home at Bennelong Street, Granville where a vehicle, matching that described in the alleged assault, was located. The car was taken for forensic examination.

The man was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 26 September 2019).
