Teen charged as part of investigation into shooting death of Omar Elomar, NSW

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a teenager as part of the ongoing investigating into the shooting death of a teenager in Sydney’s west at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to Cabramatta Avenue, Miller, just after 11pm on Saturday (15 February 2020), following reports that a teenager had been shot.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the teen died at the scene.

He has since been formally identified as 18-year-old Omar Elomar.

A post mortem examination was conducted this week and found he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Following initial inquiries by officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Cero.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, strike force detectives arrested an 18-year-old man at a home in Cartwright about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 February 2020).

Following further investigations, a search warrant was executed with the assistance of South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad at the home just after 8pm, where detectives seized various items relevant to the investigation.

The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with conceal serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2020).

Detectives are continuing to canvass the local area, and speaking with Mr Elomar’s family, friends, and associates.

Investigators are appealing to the community for any information that may be able to assist with their inquiries.

They are also seeking any dash cam vision from vehicles travelling in the area during the evening on Saturday 15 February 2020 and the early hours of Sunday 16 February 2020.
