Teen charged following Eclipse investigation into handle tasking offenders

Detectives from Operation Eclipse have charged a man overnight as part of their investigation into a handle believed to be tasking offenders to commit crimes targeting Melbourne’s licensed venues.

A 19-year-old Cranbourne man was taken into custody yesterday morning.

Four mobile phones, a number of other electronic devices, an extendable baton and four bank cards not in his name were seized from the address.

The electronic devices will now be forensically analysed.

The man was charged with possess proceeds of crime and possess controlled weapon.

He was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 19 August.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Operation Eclipse was established in April to target a range of serious and organised crime syndicates believed to be involved in the offending, as well as determining the motive for these attacks.

The operation is led by specialist detectives including the Gang Crime Squad and Arson and Explosives Squad who continue to work closely with local police, in particular regional detectives who continue to respond to and investigate these incidents.

Police continue to have an increased presence in both an overt and covert capacity throughout these entertainment precincts, including increased patrols of these areas and visits to licensed premises.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
