Police have charged a teenager over a string of alleged break and enters in the state’s Riverina region, as part of Operation Regional Mongoose.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.
Between Friday 6 February 2026 and Thursday 5 March 2026, police will allege a number of homes in Ashmont were broken into.
During the alleged break ins, cash, jewellery and electronics were stolen, with an estimated value of $4000.
Following extensive investigations, about 10.30pm on Friday 27 March 2026, officers located a 15-year-old boy at a home in Mount Austin.
He was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
The 15-year-old was charged with break and enter house steal value less than or equal to $60,000 (seven counts), three counts of break and enter dwelling-house with intent (three counts), and aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal less than or equal to $60,000.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday 28 March 2026 and was granted conditional bail to appear in a children’s court tomorrow (Tuesday 31 March 2026).
