A teenage boy has been charged following alleged arson incidents in Lake Macquarie earlier this week.
About 10.40pm on Monday 31 August 2026, emergency services were called to a fast-food restaurant on Stockland Drive, Glendale, following reports of a fire.
At the scene, emergency services were told staff had extinguished a fire in the bathroom of the restaurant and on a small patch of grass outside.
Several hours later, about 1.40am yesterday (Tuesday 1 September 2026), emergency services were called to a takeaway shop on South Street, Windale, following reports of a fire.
At the scene, police located two large bins alight behind the shop.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews attended and extinguished the blaze, that resulted in damage to the building.
Police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
A short time later, police observed a Holden Colorado drive past the location.
Police attempted to stop the driver, and when he allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through Bennetts Green to Belmont, where it was terminated due to the manner of driving.
About 6.35am, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at Belmont Police Station.
He was charged with three counts of damage property by fire/explosion, and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.
He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Monday 14 September 2026.
