Teen Nabbed Nearly Twice Speed Limit In Campbellfield

An unlicensed teen will have some explaining to do after being caught at nearly double the speed limit in Campbellfield yesterday morning.

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers spotted the Mazda 3 travelling along Sydney Road just after 7am on 21 June.

The vehicle was detected at an alleged speed of 157km/h in the 80km/h zone.

Officers intercepted the car and spoke with the driver who allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test before refusing to accompany officers for an evidentiary test.

The 16-year-old from the Hume area is expected to be charged on summons with speeding, unlicensed driving and refusing to remain for an oral fluid test.

He and his two mates were forced to walk home after the car, which belongs to a family member, was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $966.50.
