A teenage boy has been charged with alleged traffic, property and drug offences following a pursuit in Lake Macquarie.
About 3.30pm yesterday (Sunday 27 September 2026), a Honda SUV was reported stolen from a home on Frederick Street, Dudley.
Following inquiries, police located the SUV on Callemonda Close, Jewells, shortly after 4pm.
When officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued along Dalrymple Street and onto the Pacific Highway where the SUV crashed into another vehicle.
The driver exited the SUV and allegedly dropped a machete before running from the scene.
He was arrested following a foot pursuit approximately 500 metres from the scene of the crash.
The 16-year-old boy was taken to the John Hunter Hospital under police guard for assessment following the crash.
During a search of the SUV, officers located and seized items of interest including 2g methamphetamine, gloves, stolen number plates and a balaclava.
A passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was also arrested at the scene.
She was taken to Belmont Police Station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
She was granted conditional bail to appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 14 October 2026.
The 16-year-old driver has since been charged with eight offences,
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed
- Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)
- Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc
- Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime
- Possess prohibited drug, and
- Not stop vehicle when directed to do so.
He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Monday 28 September 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
