Teenage girl critically ill after falling from car

A teenage girl has been critically injured after falling from the roof of a car in Altona last night.

Police have been told the young woman was on the roof of a car with three friends, in the vicinity of The Esplanade and Davies Street, when they all fell as the car turned about 11.30pm.

It is believed the group were sitting on the roof of a red and white mini-Cooper sedan and were celebrating the Samoan rugby team winning a World Cup game at the time of the incident.

The 17-year-old woman, who is receiving urgent medical care in hospital, is believed to have struck her head when she fell.

Another teenager has since presented at hospital with injuries from the incident and is also receiving treatment.

The driver of the car didn’t stop and remains outstanding.

Police are working to establish the identity of the driver, who has been described as a male, and are appealing for him to come forward.
