Teenage Girls Arrested At Whyalla

Two teenage girls were arrested after police stopped a stolen car at Whyalla overnight.

Police spotted the stolen Mitsubishi station wagon on the Lincoln Highway, Middleback Ranges just before 5am on Wednesday 12 August, however, the driver refused to stop.

Patrols successfully spiked the car’s tyres on Jenkins Avenue, Whyalla Jenkins and the car came to a stop a couple of streets away on Jensen Avenue. Both occupants ran from the car.

One girl ran into scrub on the side of the road but was quickly caught. Police found the second suspect hiding behind bins in the front yard of a house on Jensen Avenue.

A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl, both from Port Lincoln, were arrested and charged with illegal use. The younger girl was also charged with driving unlicensed and failing to stop for police.

They were bailed to appear in the Whyalla Youth Court on 15 September.

The Mitsubishi had been stolen from earlier in the night from a Port Lincoln address.

The car was towed away for forensic examination.
