Teenager charged after armed robbery at Tamworth

A teenager will appear in court today charged over alleged armed robberies in the state’s north.

About 6.40pm on Friday (22 September 2023), a person – wearing a hooded jumper and mask – approached a taxi driver – a 63-year-old man – on Fiona Drive, Moore Creek, and allegedly threatened him with a knife before taking cash and leaving.

Just before 5.50pm on Sunday (24 September 2023), a person entered the garage of a home in Oxley Vale and allegedly threatened a 46-year-old woman with a knife, demanding the keys to her vehicle. The person left after the woman refused.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Monday 25 September 2023), a person approached a taxi driver on Fiona Drive, Moore Creek, and allegedly threatened him with a knife before taking cash and leaving.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District commenced an investigation into the incidents.

Following inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home on Nelson Crescent, Moore Creek about 10.45pm yesterday (Monday 25 September 2023), where a 17-year-old boy was placed under arrest and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

During the search, items allegedly linked to the robberies were seized for forensic examination.

The boy was charged with three counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon, and refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Tuesday 26 September 2023).
