A teenager has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash in the state’s north last year.
About 2.45pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025, emergency services responded to reports of a car crashing into a tree along Diamond Head Road, Coralville, about 35km north of Taree.
Officers from Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended and found an 18-year-old man, who was a front seat passenger in the vehicle, had died before their arrival.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the driver – a 16-year-old boy – and another passenger – a 17-year-old boy – before they were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist officers from the Northern Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, yesterday (Sunday 31 May 2026), the 16-year-old boy was charged with:
- Dangerous driving occasioning death – driver manner dangerous,
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – driver manner dangerous,
- Negligent driving occasions death,
- Negligent driving occasions grievous bodily harm,
- Learner driver not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester,
- Not give particulars to police.
He was issued with a Court Attendance notice to appear before a Children’s Court on Thursday 6 August 2026.
