Teenager critical after being hit by car at Mittagong, NSW

A teenage girl is in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in the Southern Highlands last night.

About 10.20pm (Friday 15 January 2021), emergency services responded to reports two pedestrians had been hit by a Toyota Corolla on the Old Hume Highway at Mittagong.

Police have been told a vehicle stopped in a lane on the Old Hume Highway, before two teenagers exited the car.

A 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious head injuries, before being airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

A 16-year-old boy was treated at the scene for leg injuries, before being taken by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from The Hume Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

The Toyota driver, a 42-year-old man, was not injured and taken to Bowral Hospital for mandatory testing and has been released pending further inquiries.
