Teenagers charged after pursuit at Woy Woy, NSW

Three teenagers will face court today after a pursuit on the Central Coast overnight.

About 12.20am (Sunday 7 March 2021), officers attached to the Brisbane Water Proactive Crime team were patrolling the suburb of Tascott, when they attempted to stop a Toyota Corolla on Brisbane Water Drive for a random breath test.

The Toyota failed to stop and began accelerating away from police, with a pursuit initiated, travelling through the suburbs of Woy Woy, Ettalong Beach and Umina

Road spikes were successfully deployed at the intersection of Bourke and Ocean Beach Roads, deflating the tyres before it crashed into a street sign on Dorothy Avenue, Woy Woy, and came to a stop.

A search of the vehicle and the occupants revealed the passengers allegedly in possession of cash, and drugs. These items were seized for forensic examination.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, and his two male passengers, aged 16 and 15, were arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station.

The driver was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive with low range PCA, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h – estimated, and driver never licensed.

The older passenger was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, possess prohibited drug, and supply prohibited drug.

The younger passenger was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and deal with property proceeds of crime.

All three boys were refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court today (Sunday 7 March 2021).
