Teens assaulted with hammer in Doonside

A teenager has been hospitalised after being assaulted with a hammer at Doonside yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Tuesday 19 March 2019), students were walking towards Doonside Railway Station when four men got out of a car at the intersection of Kildare Road and approached them.

Police have been told the men, armed with a baseball bat and a hammer, assaulted an 18-year-old man before striking a 16-year-old male to the head with a hammer when he and several by standers attempted to intervene.

Some of the students fled, including the older teen who was again attacked by three men and assaulted with a hammer before getting on a train and leaving.

The armed men all got back in the vehicle and fled.

Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command attended and have commenced inquiries into the incident.

The 16-year-old youth was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and later released.

As inquiries continue, detectives are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Blacktown police or Crime Stoppers.
