Police are warning the community to be wary of a telephone scam targeting the western suburbs.
Members of the public have contacted police stating they have received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer from a specified police station.
The number displayed on the caller identification is that of the police station.
The caller further states the victims bank accounts have been used for fraudulent activity and if this has not been rectified, they may be liable for criminal charges or arrested.
The caller then directs the victim to withdraw a significant amount of cash from their bank account and deposit this into another bank account or attend a supermarket and purchase several gift cards in significant amounts.
The scammers then call the victim back who is instructed to provide the barcode numbers and contact a nominated Police Station to inform them that they have complied with the demands
