A $1.27M tender to design and construct a new bridge on Indigo Creek Road has been awarded to Yackandandah based company Nelmac Pty Ltd.

The project will see a 23 metre single span, two-way bridge constructed to replace the existing twin, round corrugated metal culverts. There were significant deficiencies in the structures following heavy rain in October 2022, which resulted in an immediate closure of the road.

The works are being funded by a Federal Government grant of $1.242M through its Bridges Renewal Program and a $310,000 contribution from Council.

Mayor Sophie Price says Council is grateful for the Federal funding and for the opportunity to replace the existing culverts with more appropriate, future-fit infrastructure.

“We’ve seen significant infrastructure fail and when advocating for this funding, it was clear that a like-for-like replacement was not the best long-term solution for our community.”

Cr Price thanked those impacted for their patience and perseverance during the initial road closure and also the temporary traffic arrangements. “The reinstatement of full access to Indigo Creek Road has been a major priority for Council, and we’re so pleased to award the contract and to see these works finally underway.”

A start date for construction is to be confirmed but contractors will soon be on site to undertake necessary tree removal works.

Updates will be provided in Council’s weekly e-newsletter YOUR INDIGO.
