Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Northern Suburbs Youth Hub is a step closer, with a contract awarded to design and construct the new facility at Leanyer Recreation Park in Darwin’s northeast.

Set to provide a safe and welcoming space for young people aged 10 to 17, the hub will offer opportunities to learn, connect and access support services.

It will also create a structured environment that encourages participation, development and wellbeing.

A $3.043 million contract has been awarded to Aspire Design & Construct Pty Ltd, with work expected to begin at the site in Quarter 4, 2026 following completion of a design phase.

Located adjacent to the existing basketball courts, the facility will feature secure access for staff and young people through a dedicated entry point, while also providing convenient access to nearby skate park and water park facilities.

Features of the hub include:

  • a large flexible, air-conditioned activity space opening onto a veranda

  • a kitchen for cooking and life skills programs

  • accessible amenities

  • office and meeting space for support services

  • dedicated parking and safe drop-off zone

  • outdoor activity areas and storage.

The project is funded through a $5 million Australian Government commitment under the Priority Community Infrastructure Program.

Construction of the new youth hub is scheduled for completion in 2027.
