There was a whole lot to celebrate this Territory Day and it wasn’t just the fireworks that had us excited.
While the crackers had everyone outside captivated, it was the Royal Darwin Hospital maternity department that stole the show, delivering 6 of the newest Territorians!
Emma and Joel welcomed their second child, Colton, born 12:40pm and weighing 2.88kg. His arrival was a celebration shared by the entire department, which had been closely involved throughout his journey into the world.
After his due date came and went, baby boy Rayan also made his arrival on 1 July – sneaking into Territory Day at 2:25am.
Rayan’s parents David and Ishara had a feeling they would meet their little boy on Territory Day, with his older sister Inaya celebrating her birthday on 1 January.
‘We thought he might have come on the first because of his sister – so we’ve got a New Years Day and Territory Day baby!’ – Ishara
Inaya and Rayan also share a special relationship with their midwife, Jessica, who was present for both deliveries.
‘I remembered Ishara and the family instantly when they came in – it’s so special to see them again and for both Rayan and Inaya to be born on such significant days of the year.
Everything about being a midwife is amazing, but it is these really special moments working with the families that you remember.’ – Jessica
