Thermal imaging camera stolen in CBD

Southbank police are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who removed a thermal imaging camera from a post on Southbank Promenade last month.

The camera valued at $15,000 and belonging to Fire Response Victoria was attached to the post on Riverside Quay while firefighters attended a bin fire on Monday 3 May.

Firefighters left the scene and at 6.30pm CCTV footage shows a man approaching the camera site, taking footage of the camera with his mobile phone before taking the camera down from the post and walking away.

The camera is shaped like a handheld speed camera and has a sticker affixed indicating that it is property belongs to Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB).

The man is described as approximately 170cm tall, aged between 40-50years, with dark grey hair and is balding.

Investigators have released an image and CCTV footage of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
