Thomas Street playground redevelopment

Playground designer, Ric McConaghy, has responded to the community feedback on what should be included in the new all ages and abilities playground at Thomas Street Reserve with an exciting and highly original concept. Whether you are into Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings or Princess Bride, this medieval inspired playground will have something to enthral you.

The new playground delivers opportunities for children of all abilities to swing, bounce, slide and splash together. The old timber turrets of the former playground have been re-purposed and will be used as features in the new playspace. One of the more exciting play options is a fully accessible flying fox, based on the ancient sport of jousting.

We have included a seniors playground where older adults can work on their balance, coordination and fitness and a walking track around the park. There will also be a new, larger, accessible toilet.

These are just some of the exciting concepts included in the draft plans and we would love to know what you think.

You can view a spiffy, interactive map online on Council’s website bayside.vic.gov.au and leave your feedback.

Hampton Library in Service Street, Hampton has a large format display of the plans and forms you can fill out and leave for us to consider.

There will be two onsite feedback sessions at the park where you can meet Ric McConaghy, the playground designer, in person and he can explain his vision.

  • Friday 16 August from 3.30pm – 5.30pm
  • Saturday 17 August from 1pm – 3pm

Consultation on the draft plans will run from 1 August – 8 September 2019.

Construction of the new playground is expected to commence in mid 2020 with the new playground opening in 2021.
