Australia’s largest community-led electrification expo returns to Hawthorn in 2026, helping households lower their energy bills, switch to electric options and future-proof their homes.
The free Electrify Your Life Expo, delivered by non-profit Electrify Boroondara and City of Boroondara, will take over Hawthorn Arts Centre on Sunday 11 October 2026 10am-4pm with 40 installer, supplier and not-for-profit exhibitors, 5 information sessions with experts, 3 high-level panel conversations with prominent guests, a large family activities zone, and several live action tech demonstrations. Offerings will provide advice for homeowners, renters and apartment residents.
After attracting over 2,000 people in 2025, the event is expected to grow even more this year with increasing public awareness of climate change and the rising cost of using fossil fuels in daily life. Canberra Times recently reported that households can save $5,000 per year by switching to electric alternatives.
Visitors can speak with exhibitors about many types of upgrades including solar, batteries, electric vehicles, double glazing, draught proofing, induction cooking, heat pump hot water and other electric technologies. A dedicated Electric Vehicle display will feature different models, local EV owners and expert advice – a great chance to ask questions since battery electric vehicles are at a record breaking nearly 25% of new cars sales as of August 2026 .
Information sessions on improving home comfort in winter and summer (considering extreme weather expected due to climate change), solar and battery systems, and apartment and strata living will provide practical tips.
The Expo program kicks off at 10:30am with the first Panel Conversation – AFLW St Kilda player Nicola Barr, AFL player Tom Campbell, Olympic cyclist Grace Brown OAM will talk about how climate change is putting community sport at risk, and what local clubs are doing to protect it. At 12:00pm, Panel Conversation 2 gets practical with speakers from Get Off Gas, Asians for Climate Solutions and CitiPower, plus Sarah Aubrey from Electrify This, who will show how electric homes are healthier, more comfortable and cheaper to run.
Electrify Boroondara Chair, Susan Biggar notes “Whether you’re just starting out or already on your electrification journey, we want residents to know where to turn for trusted advice, financial support and practical help.”
“Residents can now access a growing range of government support for electrification, from Boroondara Council’s BooST program and Solar Victoria rebates to the SEC’s one-stop-shop service. Our panellists will help people understand what’s available, who it’s for and how the programs can work together.”
City of Boroondara Mayor Wes Gault said the Expo would help residents make informed decisions in a practical, supportive setting. “Whether you want to cut your bills, make your home more comfortable or simply see the latest electric technology in action, there will be something for everyone.” Mayor Gault said.
“There will also be a dedicated Renters Hub for low-cost, practical upgrades that do not require major installations.”
Join the free, family-friendly Expo from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 11 October 2026 at Hawthorn Arts Centre, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, for activities, demonstrations, food, entertainment and practical advice.
