Thousands of free plants up for grabs in City of Parramatta

City of Parramatta Council will give away thousands of free trees and shrubs on Saturday 6 March to help make the City cooler, greener and more liveable.

Residents in the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA) are invited to head to Council’s nursery in Ermington on Free Plant Day and take home up to four free plants each.

“Free Plant Day is one of our most popular initiatives with hundreds of residents adding new trees and shrubs to their homes and gardens every year,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“I encourage people to come down to Council’s fantastic nursery, get helpful tips from our gardening experts and pick up free plants.”

Residents will need to provide proof of address to collect free plants at this COVID-safe event.

From working to increase tree canopy to providing more shaded public spaces, Council is committed to greening the City.

Over the past five years, Council has planted more than 500,000 trees, native shrubs and ground covers across the Parramatta LGA. It also holds one of the largest National Tree Day planting events in Australia, with about 1,000 residents planting more 10,000 indigenous seedlings each year.

“As Sydney’s Central River City experiences unprecedented growth, we’re proactively working with our community to cool and beautify our City, including by planting more trees and shrubs,” Cr Dwyer said.
