This year, thousands of students from more than 140 schools will be swapping the classroom for the track at the VAILO Adelaide 500 Schools Day today.
Students from primary and secondary schools, right across the state, will today see the S5000 Tasman Series, the Battery World Aussie Racing Super Cars and the Hot Wheels Stunt Team, as well as check out the displays from the National Motor Museum where students can learn about motorworks and racing.
More than 3000 students will walk through the gates today – more than double the number of students registered in 2022.
Modbury School P-6 is the school with the most registrations with principal Sara Slater and her team bringing their whole school for an end-of-year excursion.
The History Trust and National Motor Museum are the presenting partners for the Schools Day and will have a Model T Ford – 1921 and a GM Holden HRT 427 – 2002 for students to see.
There will also be activities for students to look at concept cars, introductions to assembly and production lines and specific activations to encourage girls to study STEM and engineering.
The VAILO Adelaide 500 is Australia’s largest domestic ticketed motorsport event and will be on from 23-26 November 2023 as the season finale event for the Repco Supercars Championship.

The VAILO Adelaide 500 is an iconic event for the state and having thousands of students head to the track for the Schools Day is a great way to showcase STEM and engineering careers in a practical way.
Students will be able to explore motorsport first-hand and hopefully, it will ignite the imagination of some of our young people about the types of careers they might want to pursue.

The increased success of the Schools Day shows just how popular the event is.
It’s a wonderful initiative, and to see schools like Modbury School P-6 get involved and take advantage of what’s on offer will no doubt inspire young minds.

They will learn how cars work, they will be introduced to engineering and will learn so much in a practical way that they wouldn’t be able to in the classroom – and all while having fun!
