Three arrests made after break and enter investigations in South Tamworth

Three teens have been charged after a string of break and enters across South Tamworth in June.

Between Saturday 13 June 2019 and Tuesday 18 June 2019, four homes on Petra Avenue, Northcott Close, Holland Street and Anthony Road were broken into.

During one incident, a woman had her handbag stolen – containing cash, a mobile phone and car keys. Her car was subsequently stolen and was involved in a police pursuit before it was recovered.

An Azzuri racing bike was also stolen from one of the homes.

Police from Oxley Target Action Group (TAG) have been investigating the incidents and made three significant arrests in the last 24 hours.

Two 15-year-old boys were arrested yesterday (Monday 19 August 2019) and one 14-year-old boy was arrested today (Tuesday 20 August 2019).

The 14-year-old was charged with aggravated break enter and steal. He appeared in a Children’s court today and was refused bail, to next appear on Tuesday 3 September 2019.

One 15-year-old was charged with aggravated break enter and steal and two counts of break enter and steal. He appeared in a Children’s court today and was granted conditional bail, to reappear on Tuesday 3 September 2019.

The second 15-year-old was charged with break and enter with intent and one count of larceny. He appeared in a Children’s court today and was granted conditional bail, to next appear on Tuesday 8 October 2019.

Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy, Acting Crime Manager from the Oxley Police District praised the Target Action Group for the positive results of their inquiries.

“It is alleged these teens have committed a number of offences and through our TAG team, we can assure the community that we are constantly working to keep our local homes safe.

“This investigation has formed part of Operation Southbreak which has been instrumental in reducing break and enter offences in Tamworth,” Detective Acting Inspector Darcy said.
