Three children left in car; woman charged in Riverwood

A woman has been charged after three children were allegedly found unattended in a vehicle at Riverwood yesterday.

Officers from St George Police Area Command were called to a carpark on Belmore Road, Riverwood, about 2.50pm (Tuesday 25 February 2020), after concerned witnesses noticed the children, a boy aged nine and twin boys aged four, had been left in a vehicle for some time.

Upon arrival, officers removed the children from the vehicle, before they were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics. They did not require further treatment.

Attempts were made to locate the parents in a nearby shopping centre without success.

While conducting inquiries at the scene the children’s mother returned to the vehicle and spoke with police.

Police conveyed the children to Hurstville Police Station where Family and Community Services were notified.

Following inquiries, a 52-year-old woman was charged with leave children unsupervised in a motor vehicle.

Police will allege in court the woman parked the vehicle and did not return to it for over an hour.

She is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 14 April 2020.
