Three-hour free parking to kick off this Saturday

The City of Perth’s three-hour free parking on weekends and public holidays begins tomorrow.

From Saturday 16 November, His Majesty’s, Pier Street and the Cultural Centre carparks will feature the offer as part of a 12-month trial.

Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said the carparks were specifically identified due to their prominent locations and convenience to CBD retailers.

“It’s clearly aimed at enticing more shoppers into the city, allowing Perth to be a destination of choice and be competitive with major commercial shopping centres such as Garden City, Carousel or Karrinyup.

“We realise the cost of parking was a barrier preventing people from coming into the city, but now that hurdle has been removed we expect to see the the CBD revitalised.

“The launch of the three-hour free parking also coincides with the City’s Christmas Lights Trail and other festive season campaigns and events, which is aimed at providing greater attractions and support for our retailers and local businesses.”

His Majesty’s, Pier Street and the Cultural Centre carparks will be easily identifiable, with the installation of giant inflatable tentacles extending from the top of each carpark.

The trial will also extend to selected on-street parking bays near the retail core on weekends and public holidays, complimenting the one-hour free parking trial already in place in Claisebrook, East Perth and West Perth.
