Three drivers were caught this morning (Sunday 11 August) with high-range breath test results, as police continue to enforce Operation High Impact F5, targeting all of the Fatal 5 offences of drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, seatbelts and dangerous road users.
About 2am, police stopped a Ford Ranger ute on Marion Road at Netley, as the car did not have its lights on.
The driver, a 29-year-old man from Lightsview underwent a breath test, and returned a positive reading of 0.197. He was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and driving without lights, he was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his car was impounded for 28 days.
In the second incident about 5am, police had set up a driver testing station on Montefiore Road in Adelaide, when a Jeep station wagon did a U-turn over a median strip to avoid the station.
Police caught up to the car on Port Road at Thebarton, and the driver underwent a breath test, returning a positive reading of 0.179. The 24-year-old Craigmore man was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and driving while disqualified. He was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his car was impounded for 28 days.
In the third incident, just after 7am police were called to Victor Harbor Road, after reports of a man driving erratically in a Honda station wagon, which also allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road.
Police located the car, which had collided with several road markers and scrubland, before coming to a stop on the side of the road at Willunga Hill (pictured).
The driver, a 58-year-old man from Renown Park underwent a breath test, returning a positive reading of 0.148.
He was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and driving under the influence, and aggravated driving without due care. He was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his car was impounded for 28 days.
The main purpose of this enforcement operation is to reinforce the message that any person using South Australians roads must be totally accountable and responsible for their behaviour when doing so.
By taking unnecessary risks or making bad decisions it can have lifelong devastating consequences.
