Three NSW Police Legatees presented 2019 Commissioner’s scholarship

Three NSW Police Legatees will be awarded the 2019 NSW Police Legacy Commissioner’s Scholarship following the National Police Remembrance Day commemoration today.

The annual scholarship was traditionally awarded to a single NSW Police Legatee, however last year NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller APM increased the amount awarded, to share it among each police legatee nominated by NSW Police Legacy.

The first recipient is 18-year-old Ewen Brotherson, who will be awarded $2000. Ewen became a police legatee when his father, student police officer Robert Brotherson, died in a car crash in 2002, when Ewen was only 12 months old.

Ewen regularly contributes to the community through Surf Lifesaving NSW and is a dedicated student who will complete his HSC next year.

The second and third recipients are sisters, Olympia and Amalia Plummer – aged 17 and 15 – who will each be awarded a $2000 scholarship by Commissioner Fuller.

Olympia and Amalia became NSW Police Legatees six years ago, when their father Leading Senior Constable Christopher Plummer died of cancer.

Leading Senior Constable Christopher Plummer left behind his wife, Juliet, and four daughters, Olympia, Amalia, Gypsy and Aaliyah. All four girls are dedicated to their studies and enjoy participating in team sports.

Commissioner Fuller said police legatees and their families face enough hardship after losing a loved one and this is a small gesture to ensure a bright future.

“I am a proud to award these three scholarships to Ewen, Olympia and Amalia, who now have the opportunity to follow their dreams with the full support of the extended police family,” Commissioner Fuller said.

“Ewen, Olympia and Amalia will all finish high school in the next few years and soon embark on a whole new journey. It is my hope that whichever path they choose, this scholarship will help,” Commissioner Fuller said.

NSW Police Legacy, established in 1987, is a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting both past and present police and their families during times of tragedy and need.

Today, NSW Police Legacy supports more than 1200 police legatees, of which 167 are young people (0-25-years-old).
