Tanunda sporting and community groups have given the tick of approval to new clubroom and changeroom facilities, positioning Tanunda Recreation Park as a major regional recreation precinct.
The $6.496 million investment delivers new shared clubrooms with a public lounge, gender-neutral changerooms, toilets, umpire rooms and spectator viewing to both the main oval and courts.
The Barossa Council project is supported by $1.5 million in State Government funding and is part of a shared vision with SACA and SANFL to develop the Barossa as South Australia’s best regional sports event tourism destination.
Mayor Bim Lange described the striking new facility as “the crown in the jewel”, placing Tanunda alongside the best regional sporting venues in the State.
“These facilities are more than just infrastructure – they help build stronger clubs, provide social connection for people of all ages and support community wellbeing,” he said.
“High quality, inclusive facilities help clubs stay strong and grow, and now more than ever, we want to keep people actively involved in sports and recreation.”
Mayor Lange said the investment also benefits the wider community by positioning Tanunda to attract major sports tourism events.
“As well as supporting grassroots sports, these facilities will draw players, spectators and visitors from outside the region, which provides a boost to the regional economy,” he said.
“With Council’s recent investment in oval lighting, a junior oval and new inclusion playground, plus renewal of the main oval surface, we’re confident this will future-proof Tanunda and pay dividends for the broader Barossa region for decades to come.”
The facilities were constructed using local tradespeople and contractors and will be officially opened next year.
