Time is running out – make a selection now – Campaspe Shire Council

Residents in townships across the Campaspe Shire have until Friday, 31 May to select a kitchen food scrap caddy and time is running out!

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said council’s existing garden waste service is being expanded from 1 July to include food waste, collected through the fortnightly kerbside collection.

“Of the 6,200 households with a green waste service – around 900 have responded to date and selected their caddy,” Cr Weston said.

“Whilst this represents around 15% of households, many are comfortable with the default option – a closed food scrap caddy – and will receive this caddy in mid to late June.”

Residents in townships without a current green bin service have also been written to, encouraging them to take up the service and get a free food scrap caddy.

“Of the 6,000 eligible households for a green bin service, we have had around 200 new requests for the service,” Cr Weston said.

“The new bin and caddy will be delivered to these households by our waste contractor, Veolia, also in mid to late June.”

Council has engaged Vivid, a local disability enterprise, to deliver the caddies in June.

“Vivid work crews will also be assembling the caddies which are expected to arrive shortly,” the Mayor added.

Staff have been at a number of locations across the shire to talk to residents about the expanded service and next week will be on the streets in Echuca as follows:

Tuesday, 28 May 3 to 5pm Bunnings

Wednesday, 29 May 3.30 to 5.30pm Hare Street, Echuca (outside Cotton-On)
