Time running out to enter 31st WorkSafe Awards

Victorians are being urged to get their entries in for the 31st annual WorkSafe Awards, with nominations closing at the end of this month.

The awards honour those who make workplace health and safety a priority, those who improve the lives of injured workers, and injured workers who overcome challenges to return to work.

WorkSafe Chief Executive Clare Amies said this year’s awards had already received strong interest, but there was still time for people who were considering nominating to get their entries in.

“Every year I am heartened by the passion and commitment shown by so many people to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of their employees and workmates,” Ms Amies said.

“The WorkSafe Awards are designed to highlight the amazing work being done in the world of occupational health and safety, and to give deserving recognition to those who do everything they can to keep their workplaces safe.”

“I really encourage any employers and workers who have a positive story to tell to get their nominations in before May 31.”

The categories are:

• Health and Safety Representative of the Year

• Health and Safety Invention of the Year

• Best Solution to a Specific Workplace Health and Safety Issue

• Best Solution to a Manual Handling Issue

• OHS Leadership/Achievement Award

• Commitment to Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing

• Leading Return to Work Practice by an Employer

• Return to Work Coordinator Excellence

• Worker Return to Work Achievement Award

Nominations are open to all Victorian-based employers and workers, and entrants may nominate themselves or another person. For the first time, a $2000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner of each category.

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Melbourne on 31 October.
