Time’s up for Rye and Tootgarook’s black spots

Local roads around Rye and Tootgarook are about to get a whole lot safer as we work to improve dangerous intersections. Seven intersections will be upgraded with compact roundabouts, speed cushions or raised intersections. The Federal Government has provided funding through their Black Spot program. Black Spot projects target road locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring.

The following locations will be improved:

  • Field Street & Shirlow Avenue – compact roundabout
  • Hygeia Street & Bimble Street – compact roundabout
  • Ozone Street & Bimble Street – compact roundabout
  • Government Road & Waratah Street – compact roundabout
  • Field Street & Marshall Street – speed cushions
  • Alma Street & Plain Street – speed cushions
  • Darvall Street & Alma Street – raised intersection.

To make the local area even safer, speed limits will be reduced from the default 50km/h down to 40km/h, and 20km/h in the Napier Street Plaza area. The main throughfare of Alma/Field/Weeroona streets will remain at 50km/h.
