Time to honour our volunteers

A call has gone out to the community to once again recognise those who give up their time and effort to make an amazing contribution to our city, with nominations for Wodonga Council’s annual volunteer awards now open.

Nominations will be accepted in honour of those quiet achievers in three categories.

  • Bryan Watson Award (Wodonga Individual Volunteer of the Year)
  • Wodonga Volunteer Team of the Year Award
  • Two Cities One Community Volunteer Award

Wodonga Council’s Team Leader Population Health and Safety, Anthea Maher, says the awards aim to recognise change makers in the community who do their part to help others, with no expectation of reward.

“Our city is lucky to have great people and organisations volunteering their time, energy and knowledge to make a difference, simply because they enjoy helping others and want to make Wodonga an even better place to live and work,” she said.

“So that’s why we’re keen for the community to help us say thanks by telling us about those people who deserve recognition.

“They could be people who fight fires, deliver meals, care for the vulnerable or lead the way in making our community healthier, more active and more inclusive – but whatever our nominees do, it’s important that we as a community officially say thank you and well done.”

The recipients of the awards will be announced at an invitation-only event in May.

To make a nomination online, visit wod.city/VolunteerAwards or collect a hard copy form from Wodonga Council at Hovell St, Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery, Baranduda or Felltimber Community Centre, AlburyCity in Kiewa St and the Albury LibraryMuseum.

Nominations are open until April 28, 2023.

“This is an opportunity for all of us to let our volunteers know how much they’re valued and respected so if you know someone working behind the scenes to help our community, please put them forward for nomination so they can be considered for the recognition they so richly deserve,” Ms Maher said.
