It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – join us as we spread festive cheer across Nillumbik while supporting our local businesses.

We’re excited to launch our Christmas in Nillumbik campaign with both the Shop in our Shire and Be Festive in our Shire programs.

Celebrate with our calendar of events and activities put together by local community groups, organisations, schools and businesses.

The activities, designed to increase community connectivity at this time of year, have been supported with $20,000 in Council grants.

Activities include Santa visits to local parks with volunteers from the Eltham CFA, a community wreath making project, online Christmas carols, treasure hunts, Christmas lights and window displays, and craft workshops.

Community groups are also preparing hampers for vulnerable community members, older residents in aged-care facilities and our refugee community.

Shop in our Shire this Christmas and support our many local businesses. Their range of great offers, services and vouchers are sure to provide inspiration for the perfect Christmas gift.

If you are heading out to celebrate over the festive period, experience our many cafes and eateries or take advantage of our beautiful open spaces and unique places to visit across the Shire.

To help our community get into the spirit of the season, a range of festive trimmings inspired by local fauna and flora have been installed across Nillumbik.

Mayor Frances Eyre said that after another challenging year for the Nillumbik community, everyone deserved a little festive cheer.

“Council is very proud to again support the Christmas in Nillumbik campaign,” Cr Eyre said.

“We hope our festive events calendar will provide opportunities for our community to reconnect and celebrate, support each other and those in need, while sharing in the Christmas spirit.

“I also encourage you to shop and eat local to support our hardworking traders who have been doing it tough these past two years. We have such a wonderful range of small businesses in our Shire.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very safe and merry Christmas and look forward to a brighter 2022.”
