The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has advised Townsville’s conserve water notice, off the back of ex-tropical cyclone Kirrily, has been lifted after Ergon restored power at multiple reservoir sites across the city.
The outages impacted power supply to 4 reservoirs and 18 water sites across Townsville.
TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill thanked the community for taking measures to conserve water as a precaution while Council worked with Ergon to get the water supply network back online.
“More than half the city was impacted by the power outages from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily, including our water infrastructure,” Cr Hill said.
“Our team comprehensively assessed the damage across the city, working closely with Ergon to get the sites back online as quickly as possible, ensuring the majority of our community never lost access to this essential service.
“People can rest assure that our water infrastructure is ship-shape and ready to serve our community with what they need to do in order to continue the clean-up.
“People can once again use water outside of drinking, bathing and washing their clothes, however living in the dry tropics we continue to urge our community to use this precious resource responsibly.”
Magnetic Island to continue boiling water
Damage to the Picnic Bay reservoir is still under repair by Council crews this afternoon, with residents and visitors on Magnetic Island asked to continue to boil their water until further notice.
