You may have noticed a number of smaller TransLink buses running around the city centre and eastern suburbs of Toowoomba.
TransLink provides urban bus services in the Garden City through a contract with Bus Queensland, who recently purchased two Hino Poncho buses.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) chair of the Regional Active and Public Transport Advisory Committee (RAPTAC) Cr Melissa Taylor said the new buses would replace the older style buses which were being used on the Kan-go On Demand service in the Rangeville area.
“We continue to grow as a Region which is why it’s so important our public transport options match the needs of our growing population,” Cr Taylor said.
“As a Committee, we feel the Kan-go provides a unique and invaluable public transport service to the Region.”
The Kan-go provides an on demand service which allows residents in a specified area in Rangeville to pre-book a ride from their home into the city.
These smaller, 18-seat Poncho buses can navigate narrow suburban streets more easily than the larger buses traditionally used to provide public transport services.
Current Head of TransLink Sally Stannard said early feedback provided to TransLink on the Poncho buses had been “very positive”.
“This small bus option offers accessibility and comfort for all passengers. Given its ability to access a wider range of areas around the city, it’s ideally suited to an on demand transport service such as the Kan-go,” Ms Stannard said.
TransLink is currently running on demand trials in other areas across the state. On demand services currently operate in Logan, Mt Tamborine, Ipswich and Hervey Bay, along with Toowoomba.
To use the Kan-go service, residents in the Rangeville area need to firstly register by calling 1800 231 248 and they can then pre-book trips as required.
