Torres Strait Island communities launch new healing reports

The Healing Foundation and Mura Kosker Sorority

The Torres Strait Island communities of Kerriri (Hammond Island), Dauan and Saibai will this week launch new reports to take the lead in their own healing.

Publication of the reports follows a series of healing forums held in 2020, where dialogue between a diverse range of key stakeholders, including community members, leaders, Elders and representatives of government and non-government agencies took place.

The Kerriri, Dauan and Saibai communities have led all conversations during the healing forums and together with The Healing Foundation and Mura Kosker Sorority, have co-designed a roadmap to healing with priority solutions identified and developed by and for community members.

The healing forum reports outline the key findings from each forum and the priority actions or healing solutions, and next steps as determined by the community.

Torres Strait Island communities are leading their own healing by addressing the trauma, distress and long-term impacts caused by colonisation.

Three healing report launches are being held at Kerriri, Dauan and Saibai, and the launching dates are as follows:

· Kerriri Meriba Iling Siduan – 28st September 2021

· Dauanilgaw Dhoeynidnay – 29th September 2021

· Saibailgaw Dhoeynidnay – 30th September 2021

Representatives from each island community will be
