Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is asking residents to be aware of a total fire ban in place with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) also issuing a fire weather warning for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt with a high fire danger predicted for the majority of the state today, Monday 16 October.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said it was important residents abided by the total fire ban and listen to warnings from BOM and Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFES).
“With BOM today issuing a fire weather warning for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, it’s important residents across the region avoid using any machinery or tools which could start a fire.
“There are localised pockets of extreme fire danger for the region today with dry gusty winds and hot dry conditions.
“A total fire ban remains in place which residents must abide by to protect property and people. Its imperative residents stay up to date with the latest warnings and dial 000 to immediately report any unattended fires,” Mayor McDonald said.
