  • More than 100 WA teachers and training staff to learn about student career pathways in the tourism and hospitality industry
  • Initiative aims to foster future pipeline of industry talent within WA schools

More than 100 Western Australian teachers and training staff will be shown the diverse and exciting opportunities in the tourism and hospitality industries for high school students at an industry workforce event today.

High school educators and career advisors will attend the Cook Government’s inaugural Schools Tourism and Hospitality Connect event to learn more about encouraging students to consider a career in the industry and present the range of programs available for students interested in tourism and hospitality.

Engaging professional development activities will include sample presentations of two of the key initiatives profiling the industry as a positive career choice – the Chef Ambassador Program for budding chefs, and Tourism & Hospitality Careers Promotion Program.

Traineeships and apprenticeships will be promoted to attendees, who will be provided with a range of resources to help inspire the next generation of tourism and hospitality professionals.

Local tourism and hospitality operators will also provide attendees with industry taster sessions on their businesses to inform educators about the various career options available to their students after they leave school.

The Cook Government’s $3.9 million Tourism Workforce Development Program is in its second year of implementation, with a focus on supporting the short and long-term workforce needs of the visitor economy.
