Tourist charged after violent assault, NSW

A man who has been in Australia less than 24-hours will appear in court today after an alleged violent assault on another man in Sydney’s east.

About 1.30am (Saturday 13 April 2019), police will allege a 59-year-old man was walking along Campbell Parade, near Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach, when he was approached by another man who allegedly assaulted and threatened him.

The 59-year-old man attempted to run away, when the man continued to assault him and stole his mobile phone, until a nearby pedestrian alerted police.

The older man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and arrested a 35-year-old UK National, at the scene.

He was taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery with wounding/grievous bodily harm and choke person intend to commit indictable offence.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 13 April 2019).
